Skabeche is a 10-man Ska (a music genre which originated in Jamaica) band based in Bulacan.Noel Salonga and Daniel “Bong” Quintero Jr., who were founding members of a Punk band known as “Vomiting 7”, decided to transform their band into a SKA band. Formed in 2000, the group's name has been changed from “Kakrotz” to “Dead Macoy and the Skanners” to “Skarevs” or “Ska-revolutionaries” (since the group aims to identify, propagate and revolutionize the Philippine music) to “Skabeche” which was derived from the Filipino dish escabeche.
The group, together with other bands Put3ska and “Buccaneers”, hosted the very first “Bulacan Ska Festival”. The said festival was a huge success. Since then, Ska has become a word of mouth among the Bulacan live band enthusiasts.They collaborated in numerous Ska compilation albums like the “Asian Ska Foundation” album. The band released its debut album “Table for Ten” in 2010. Parts of the proceeds of the said album went to Earnest Support for Underprivileged Children (E-SUCH), a non-government organization that provides underprivileged children in Bulacan shelter, care and training for drawing and painting.The group has guested on numerous radio and TV shows. They used to be the regular house band of Ka-Toque Lutong Barkada, a cooking show aired every Saturday on QTV 11 (now known as GMA News TV).
Aside from the usual sounds of guitars, bass, and drums, the band's music is reinforced with three kinds of saxophones, a trombone, trumpet, and big percussions to add depth to their musicality. They consider Skatalites, 2 Tone, Put3ska, Club Ska and Tokyo Ska Paradise Orchestra as their influences. The style, originality, and versatility of their music have made the group one of the most popular and distinguished Ska bands in the Philippines, hence, they are dubbed as PambanSKAng Banda ng Pilipinas.
