From the successful launch of 420 last April 20, 2012 at 4:20PM, local band Powerspoonz has yet once again proven that music from the Queen City of the South is still something to reckon with. A band with a good mix of musically inclined personalities who have banded together to bring us nothing but good music. There big break was in 2000 when they joined the band competition organized by San Miguel of which they won as champions for the Visayas leg as well as Best Guitarist and Best Bassist awards. Moving on to 2001 they again were thrust into the limelight by being nominated for Best New Artist which the winner was another Cebuano group Urbandub who won it but regardless of not bagging that prize they had been showered with offers from San Miguel which provincial and school (university) tours were set up. Part of that push was the release of their independent album Buddha Blessed with the help of a successful tie up with a sponsor made the album release a huge success in Mactan which was achieved by sheer determination and hard work. They had also released an EP in Manila entitled "Unsung Heroes".
Getting national recognition from other bands in the Philippines they then had a chance to tour with Slapshock as the opening act for the band nationwide concert. Powerspoonz are also one of the pioneering bands of the so-called "Suspitsados" in Cebu that is composed of members from Sheila & The Insects, Frank!, Smooth Friction and Urbandub. Bands as we know it never really stay with the same members and change is also an integral part of the musical influence or vibes that help power up those creative juices and Powerspoonz is no stranger to the changes that happen. After some new blood came in to replace the old ones that have left the Powerspoonz family still is alive and kicking!
