Mom’s Cake has been up and around the music industry since 2004. Started out as the usual trip garage band, playing from different “inumans” and parties, they’ve made their mark as the spontaneous funny guys who can sprout impromptu songs to whatever topic, person or item they picked on. The band got their break from Mr. Ogie Alcasid, signed them under I-Music Philippines, and released a self-titled debut album that was distributed by Universal Records in 2005. They’ve got their fair share of radio airplays coming from requests of their fans who loved their sweet sounding, heart pounding kilig tunes that frantically captured every listener’s hearts. Although it wasn’t all sugary and sweet for the band, unlike their name suggests. Like a cake that refused to rise despite being made with the exact directions straight from the cookbook, you just know that something just isn’t right. Try as you may to save the cake by putting in decorations, candy flowers and what-nots, all efforts would just be put to waste when the cake will collapse under all that weight. There will be no other way except to just leave it, all moldy and green. However, one cannot put a stop on something one is very passionate about. Grab the eggs, the flour, yeast and sugar, and do it all over again. But this time, choose only the best ingredients, even if it will take a long time to find it, because the search is always worth it. Now finished with the search for the best ingredients, Mom’s Cake, now consisting of Jerome on vocals, Pompoms on rhythm guitar, Patrick on lead guitar, Sporny on bass and Rae on drums, is now ready to rock your world again with their insane sweetness that is just right for our taste buds. Their musicality will both strike you as brave and refreshing; thanks to the newfound camaraderie that makes working with each other easy as a pie. Every time is one hell of a rocking time with Mom's Cake. One good listen to their album takes all worries away that you'll beg for it not to stop. As their name suggests, their music is light yet infectious, catchy and melodious, yet up-tempo with sprinkles of good old head-bopping rock. You can blame them for giving you that pleasant last song syndrome that can stay with you all day. Their lyrics are simple, inspired by the everyday lives of people with little problems, but chooses to just laugh it off than be depressed over it. Jerome, the main songwriter of the band, known for his lyric-genius and insulin induced compositions, made his mark in the industry as well. For the songs “I Love You 123”, used as a soundtrack for the movie “You are the One” by Sam Milby and Tony Gonzaga, “Exodus” for Bong Revilla’s film entry for the 2005 Metro Manila Film Festival “Exodus”, and “Ibang Level Na ‘To” for GMA 7’s hit sitcom “HP” (Hocus Pocus) Opening & Closing song. Seeing them live is again another thing that sets them against the norms. Others would pale in comparison with the stage presence and energy Mom's Cake exudes in stage. They jump, do crazy stuffs, run and even go down the stage to sing with the frantic audiences. You cannot see bands nowadays do that, maybe even never.... Though they are not here to revolutionize the whole music scene with how they do their thing, they're just here to be the breath of fresh air we all need, and give smiles to our problematic faces, to teach us to appreciate everything, even the most mundane of things. That is what music is all about, and that's what drives Mom's Cake to still laugh and give us all a good time. A L B U MAlbum1 : Moms Cake
