The Teeth is a Filipino grunge band. The band was formed on early 90’s during the time of Manila’s alternative rock. The band was known for its single “Laklak”, a tale of youthful excess that became an anthem for drinking. The track alone topped the charts of LA-105, the Philippines’ adventurous alternative rock station for 12 weeks. The band was formed on September 1993. Its original members were Glenn Jacinto, Jerome Velasco, Peding Narvaja and Mike Dizon. Glenn is the band’s vocalist, Jerome as the guitarist, Narvaja on bass and Dizon on the drums. Glenn is a former member of Loudhouse while the remaining three were from the group Riftshifta. The band was signed with Warner Music Philippines and on 1995, the band released its debut album entitled The Teeth. The album sales soared high achieving a certified double-platinum status. The first single “Laklak” was constantly played on the airwaves touching the public with its alcohol-fueled lyrics. Their second single entitled “Princesa” was played on MTV Asia in spite of its cheaply made video. The band’s vocalist, Jacinto was hospitalized on 1996 for a lung ailment. His absence left the album demoted. He was even unable to fulfill the scheduled concert dates of the year. The band however, attempted to hire another vocalist to temporarily replace Jacinto but it was of no use. The group’s chemistry was destroyed. On 1997, Jacinto was recovered and started recording their second album entitled Time Machine. Though alternative rock in Manila slowly died out, still the album made it to certified platinum. Eventually, Nervaja left the band and was replaced by Andrew Sergio. In 1998, Mike Dizon together with Raimund Marasigan co-founded Sandwich and later Pedicab in 2005.
