Color It Red is a Filipino band formed on late 1990’s but failed to make it to the spotlight. After a long hiatus, they’re back to the mainstream with six members through their eponymous debut album. Color It Red is among the handful of bands that have been present and did something during the time when OPM was a “no-no”. It was the time when words as “alternative” and “indie” were dirty and unrecognized. Such a pity for sets of talents at the time, politics may be the one the one to blame. Not for long, the band disappeared in the music scene. For all those fans who listens to “alternative” OPM, rejoice! Here comes the resurrection of Cookie Chua and her band, Color It Red. Cookie Chua is one of the artists who possessed that rare wondrous voice ever lived, like a voice of a goddess of the urban rainforest, lovely and mysterious in nature. Though she had the voice, she is still unrecognized for the rosters of world-class talents. Thank God, she is now back. After her creative hibernation, she descended back to the city through the band and its eponymous album. Color It Red entered the mainstream through their self-titled album, released under Star Records. Opening the tracks were the songs, “Dalawa” and “Speak To Me” that can surely captivate your senses right away with their performances in wonderfully blended alternative-pop melody. “Stay”, the album’s third song was composed by Sam Baja. Complete with moaning, no wonder declaring this single as your favorite. Be reminded, you are dealing with an alternative genre here. But in this material, you are to be struck with awe at the assortment of tracks from the album. Songs ranged from soft, calm and innocent “Speak To Me” to a dance-able track “You”, to a sensibly naughty “Panalo”; from premise of domestic bliss “Ikaw At Ako” to a more controversial ones about freedom and achievements “Panalo” and “Sweet Freedom”. You have to professed total appreciation and devotion by the time you listened to the last track, “If You Love Me”, an equally raspy jazz piece of Sam Baja. This will be your second favorite, I’m sure!. With their simple-poetic lyrics in beautiful, mesmerizing melodies, hail them as one of the most seasoned performer nowadays. And you will be thankful that idol is back with her band, after being retained for six years in an indie limbo. A L B U M SAlbum1 : Hand Painted Sky
