Myra David, better known in the music scene as Skarlet, is an Awit Award-winning jazz and ska musician. Currently a solo jazz artist, David is the former vocalist of ska bands Brownbeat All-Stars and Put3ska.
Before reinventing herself as Skarlet, David was the vocalist of successful ska band Put3Ska of the 90s. Put3Ska was the band behind the hit songs, Manila Girl, Manila's Finest, and their cover version of Robert Spencer's My Boy Lollipop. David was awarded NU 107's Vocalist of the Year (1997), and Best Live Act and Best New Artist (1995) with Put3ska. After four years and two albums, David left Put3Ska.
In 1998, David joined the Brownbeat All-stars, also a ska band. They released an album with the hit songs Brownbeat Theme and Lampungan. Together with the Brownbeat All-Stars, David won a number of awards in the Katha Awards and NU Rock Awards.
In 2007, David changed her stage name to Skarlet and released a solo jazz album entitled The Powder Room Stories. Her shift from ska to jazz proved to be successful as her album received positive reviews from local music writers and in 2007, she won the best jazz artist and producer award in the Awit Awards, the Philippines' premier music awards. Her solo album also won the best jazz recording.
