Formed in 2003 as a side project of erstwhile Moonstar88 drummer, William Pineda, together with Terrence Teves, guitarist of the now defunct Orphan Lily, the two formed a band that fused both their influences, from the new wave invasion of the 80’s to the then prevailing britpop sound. The band went through a few lineup changes starting with Terrence leaving for personal reasons and others, due to conflicting schedules and musical influences. This resulted in a fortunate meeting of Gish’s present band members, still with William ‘Popo’ Pineda on vocals and guitars, Gj Solidum on lead guitars, Archie Simangan on Bass, and Oli Estacio on drums. In June 2006, Gish released their self-titled debut album under Alpha Music. A number of songs from the album enjoyed regular airplays in various radio stations - RX 93.1, 99.5 RT, NU 107 and 103.5 MAX FM. These include a remake of APO Hiking Society’s “Panalangin”, and “Buong Linggo”, a collaboration with former Moonstar88 vocalist Acel Bisa and “Ibubulong” which was used as one of the theme songs in Studio 23’s show Barkada Trip. The band also made a video for the songs “Ibubulong” and “Buong Linggo” which was aired on MYX. With such a great start for a relatively young group, whose songs root back to a musical genre that will always be both influential and nostalgic to some, the band continues to impress their listeners with their distinct sound that Gish can gladly call their own. Ask the band to describe their music? they’d say, “It’s scotch on the rocks with a twist.” A L B U MAlbum1 : Gish
