Dahong Palay is a Filipino band considered as the country’s “Kings of Dark Metal”. They proved to be one of the prime movers during early 90’s when FM Station LA105.9 dominated the airwaves. Aside from alcohol, drugs and sex, major music influences include Black Sabbath, Ozzy Osbourne, DIO, Black Label Society, Badlands, Iron Maiden, Alice Cooper, Helloween, Hammerfall, Blind Guardian, Dokken, Sacred Reich, Loudness, Slayer and Pantera.
Dahong Palay started dominating Manila’s underground scene. Dahong Palay was founded and managed by Mon “The Doctor” Zialcita of LA105 during the era of metal 80’s. The band was named after a breed of snake that is considered to be one of the most venomous, Ricefield Snake if translated in England and Dahong Palay in Tagalog. They are known for killing their prey by its venom through biting or mere touching of the latter’s scales.
