Fatal Posporos is a Filipino band, an all-female trio band. Their music is in into punk and new wave. With these musical genres, bands that influenced them locally were Urband Bandits and Dead Ends. They also listened to the likes of foreign The Dead Kennedys, Sex Pistols and Exploited. Composing the band are the three bubbly girls. Kris Gorra leads the vocals and played the guitars. The vocalist-bassist at the same time is Donna Macalino and the drummer-vocalist is Annete Ortiz. Their manager is no other than Ernest Mangulabnan. Fatal Posporos has been together since 1994 and was officially formed on 1998. It all started in high school, agreeing to have “fatal” in their name since, punk and new wave were in during the time. The Fatal Posporos was first used by Annette’s friend band but failed to keep it. And since, they badly needing a name for their gigs, they use the name, Fatal Posporos and stuck!, the name since then was theirs. Ironically, the band was formed without the desire and passion of forming it. It just happened. As Annette recalls, it all started during a Christmas Party when the group played their first jamming. They performed, not yet a band that time, just pure amusement. They have been performing gigs in different clubs and even fronted some popular bands across the country. For four years, honing their skills, they are now prepared and their music became more grown-up and matured. Accordingly, Tungaw Band gave them their first break. Annete’s brother played the Tungaw Band and they invited them to jam with them at the Club Dredd. Club Dredd gave them their first gigs as Fatal Posporos together with other notable performers. Their first gig must be proved successful because since then, Fatal Posporos started to make original compositions. All of them were the main songwriters, sharing workloads and ideas, quite easy for them since they are composed only of three. Everyone can relate to their music since it talks nothing about every day living, personal experiences, frustrations, unrequited love and dreams. Fatal Posporos has performed in front of many big crowds and toured around different campuses as UP Diliman, UST, Ateneo and Central Colleges of the Philippines. They also played in popular venues as Mayric’s, 70’s Bistro and in Club Dredd. They made a front act of no other than, The Eraserheads. Fatal Posporos had gone a long way and Annette admits, there is still an ocean of improvements need to be discovered. Now, they still don’t have a record label to release their songs, however, they have recorded a 12-song demo being distributed to different labels, hoping for a positive response from them.
